  • How can Lemonaid Health help if I need birth control?

Our birth control service provides you with a convenient and affordable way to discuss contraception options with a medical provider, and empowers you to do so appropriately and safely.

Our medical team can recommend a birth control that matches your needs based on your medical history.  Our doctors and nurse practitioners are able to prescribe many different birth control options, including NuvaRing and the Xulane patch. We can start you on birth control, refill your existing birth control, or change you to a new birth control that may be a better fit for you.

  • How does birth control work?

Hormones in birth control keep eggs from leaving your ovaries and thicken your cervical mucus making it harder for sperm to reach an egg and fertilize it.

  • Can I use the Lemonaid Health birth control service?

You can use the service if you are between the ages of 18 and 49 years old.

If it’s not in your best interest to use Lemonaid Health based on what you tell us about your health history or symptoms, we’ll advise you to see a healthcare provider in person.

  • How do I complete a birth control service visit?

Follow the steps below to get started.

    1. Create a Lemonaid Health account.
    2. Complete our simple health questionnaire.
    3. Save your payment information - we won’t charge your card until after your consultation). Many HSA/FSA cards can be used at checkout.
    4. Provide your blood pressure readings.
    5. Complete a short consultation with a Lemonaid Health doctor or nurse practitioner. A phone call may be required depending on your state.

Our medical team will then follow strict guidelines to determine treatment is safe and appropriate for you.

If we prescribe birth control, we can ship certain options directly to you from our own Lemonaid Pharmacy. Shipping is discreet, fast and free. We can also send the prescription electronically to your local pharmacy.

  • How many packs of birth control can I get?

If eligible, you may receive a birth control prescription that lasts close to a year. We write a prescription for 3 months, with 3 additional refills. When we ship birth control tablets to you from our pharmacy, we typically ship 3 months at a time.  After you’ve used all of your refills you’ll need to come back to Lemonaid Health to complete another visit.

  • Are birth control medications provided by Lemonaid Health safe and effective?

There are risks and benefits to taking any medication. It’s important to answer our health questionnaire fully and truthfully so that our providers can help you make an informed decision about whether the benefits of a medication outweigh the potential risks.

The medications we prescribe are very effective when used correctly. It is important to follow the instructions and read the information we provide in your treatment plan to learn more about the risks and benefits of treatment.

  • Why does Lemonaid Health need to know my blood pressure to prescribe birth control medications?

We ask for an accurate blood pressure measurement as part of our health questions to help determine which birth control is right for you.  If you have high blood pressure, you have a higher risk of serious side effects from certain birth control medications, including blood clots and stroke.

  • How do I measure my blood pressure for birth control medications?

You can use an at-home blood pressure monitor that has a cuff for the upper arm and a label on the box stating ‘clinically validated’. We don’t recommend using finger or wrist monitors, as they tend to be less accurate. Always read the instructions carefully.

Many pharmacies have a machine where you can accurately measure your blood pressure for free.
Here are two links to help you find your nearest  Higi machine and Pursuant Health kiosk. Both machines are FDA approved to check blood pressure accurately.

Take 2 readings, at least one minute apart, in both arms and give us the highest number you record.
