  • How can Lemonaid Health help with my cholesterol?

Our cholesterol service provides you with a convenient and affordable way to manage your cholesterol, and empowers you to do so appropriately and safely.

You can get the care and advice you need online without having to go to a traditional doctor’s office.  Our medical team can order labs, write refills, start you on treatment, and help you manage your cholesterol on an ongoing basis.

  • What should I know about high cholesterol and how can Lemonaid Health treat it?

Cholesterol is a type of fat that’s in our blood. Our body needs cholesterol and can make it or get it from the foods we eat.

There are two types of cholesterol. LDL, sometimes called bad cholesterol, raises your chance of heart disease and stroke. HDL, sometimes called good cholesterol, is linked to a lower risk of heart disease and stroke.

Too much LDL cholesterol can make it hard for blood to flow through the vessels taking blood away from your heart. This can increase your risk of heart attack, heart disease, and stroke.

Our medical team can prescribe medications known as statins that can decrease your LDL cholesterol to lower your risk of heart attack and stroke.

  • Can I use the Lemonaid Health cholesterol service?

You can use the service if you are between the ages of 18 and 74 years old.

If it’s not in your best interest to use Lemonaid Health based on what you tell us about your health history or symptoms, we’ll advise you to see a healthcare provider in person.

  • How do I find out my cholesterol levels?

You need to have a blood test to find out your cholesterol levels.

We can order lab work for you through our partner, Quest Diagnostics, with Patient Service Centers located all around the country.  When we order lab work as part of our cholesterol service we’ll test your cholesterol, your liver and your thyroid.

  • Can Lemonaid Health prescribe medications other than statins?

Other medications used to lower cholesterol are not currently available through our cholesterol service.

  • Why does Lemonaid Health need to know my blood pressure to prescribe cholesterol medications?

Yes, you need to know your blood pressure to complete our health questions.

We use your blood pressure along with other factors - whether you smoke, your age and cholesterol test results – to determine your risk of having a heart attack over the next 10 years.

We also need to know your blood pressure because giving guidance on blood pressure is an important part of providing responsible care for decreasing your risk of heart attack, heart disease, or stroke. If you have uncontrolled high blood pressure you need to get it investigated.

  • How do I measure my blood pressure for cholesterol medications?

You can use an at-home blood pressure monitor that has a cuff for the upper arm and a label on the box stating ‘clinically validated’. We don’t recommend using finger or wrist monitors, as they tend to be less accurate. Always read the instructions carefully.

Many pharmacies have a machine where you can accurately measure your blood pressure for free.
Here are two links to help you find your nearest  Higi machine and Pursuant Health kiosk. Both machines are FDA approved to check blood pressure accurately.

Take 2 readings, at least one minute apart, in both arms and give us the highest number you record.

  • Can Lemonaid organize lab work for the cholesterol service?

Absolutely. We’ve partnered with Quest Diagnostics, the largest lab company in the US, so that you can get your lab work done cost effectively. Quest Diagnostics have thousands of Patient Service Centers around the US.

When we order lab work as part or our cholesterol service we’ll test your cholesterol, your liver and your thyroid.

In all states other than New York you’ll need to pay Lemonaid for the lab work.

  • Why do you need to know my blood pressure?
