You can use an at-home blood pressure monitor that has a cuff for the upper arm and a label on the box stating 'clinically validated'.
We recommend the Omron brand blood pressure arm cuffs, either series 3, 5, or 7. We don’t recommend using finger or wrist monitors, as they tend to be less accurate. Always read the instructions carefully.
Many pharmacies have a machine where you can accurately measure your blood pressure for free.
Here are two links to help you find your nearest Higi machine and Pursuant Health kiosk. Both machines are FDA approved to check blood pressure accurately.
Rest for at least 5 minutes before taking your blood pressure and wait at least 30 minutes after smoking, eating, drinking caffeine, or exercising.
For at-home blood pressure monitors, make sure the cuff for the upper arm fits properly with just enough room to fit your fingertips between the cuff and your arm. A cuff that is the wrong size will give an inaccurate reading.
Make sure you put the cuff on the correct part of your arm. The lower edge of the cuff should be about an inch above your elbow. Rest your elbow on a table so that the cuff is at the same level as your heart.
Blood pressure machines typically provide both blood pressure and heart rate readings. Carefully record the results for your visit. Two blood pressure readings are needed for your first blood pressure visit with us. Take the readings at least one minute apart on both arms and give us the highest number you record.
