  • How can Lemonaid Health help if I experience high blood pressure?

Our high blood pressure service provides you with a convenient and affordable way to manage your high blood pressure, and empowers you to do so appropriately and safely.

You can get the care and advice you need online without having to go to a traditional doctor’s office. Our goal is to help improve your overall health by finding the right treatments to keep your blood pressure under control.

  • What should I know about high blood pressure and how can Lemonaid Health help treat it?

High blood pressure (hypertension) is a condition where the pressure in your blood vessels is too high. It is common, but if left untreated can lead to heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, and many other issues.

Our Lemonaid Health medical team can prescribe several different types of medications to treat your high blood pressure.

  • Can I use the Lemonaid Health high blood pressure service?

We can evaluate and treat men and women between the ages of 25 and 72 years old, with a previous diagnosis of high blood pressure. We recommend you see a healthcare provider in person if you have never been diagnosed with high blood pressure, or if you wish to start these medications for the first time.

Our medical team is not able to treat all patients. See our high blood pressure service page for more details.

  • Can Lemonaid Health treat my high blood pressure remotely?

Our doctors and nurse practitioners can treat your high blood pressure based on your history, lab results, and self-reported blood pressure measurements. Our medical team follows strict guidelines to make sure we only treat you when it's safe and appropriate to do so. It’s important that you answer our questions fully and truthfully, and read any information we provide.

If, for any reason, our doctor or nurse practitioner thinks it’s not safe to treat you, we’ll ask you to see a healthcare provider in person.

  • How do I complete a high blood pressure service visit?

    1. Create a Lemonaid Health account.
    2. Complete our simple health questionnaire and provide a recent blood pressure and heart rate reading.
    3. Save your payment information - we won’t charge your card until after your consultation. Many HSA/FSA cards can be used at checkout.
    4. Complete a short consultation with a Lemonaid Health doctor or nurse practitioner. A phone call may be required depending on your state.
    5. Complete lab work, if necessary.

Our medical team will then determine if treatment with medication is safe and appropriate for you.

If we prescribe treatment, we can ship your medication directly to you from our own Lemonaid Pharmacy. Shipping is discreet, fast and free. Alternatively, our medical team can send the prescription electronically to your local pharmacy.

All consultations with a member of the medical team and medications shipped from our pharmacy are included in your membership.

  • Are the high blood pressure treatments provided by Lemonaid Health safe and effective?

There are risks and benefits to taking any medication. It’s important to answer our health questionnaire fully and truthfully so that our medical team can help you make an informed decision about whether the benefits of a medication outweigh the potential risks.

The medications we prescribe are effective and work for most people when used correctly. Please read the information we provide in your treatment plan to learn more about the risks and benefits of treatment.

  • Can Lemonaid Health refill a blood pressure medication I’m already taking?

After an online assessment, our medical team can consider a 1-month refill of a prescription that you initially received from another healthcare provider.

A follow-up visit for additional refills may require lab work to monitor important electrolytes and kidney function. These are a routine and necessary part of high blood pressure evaluation and treatment.

  • How do I complete the required lab work for the high blood pressure service?

We will order lab work for you through our partner Quest Diagnostics, with Patient Service Centers located all around the country.

We will order the following labs: basic metabolic panel without calcium, hemoglobin A1c, TSH, CBC with differential and platelets, lipid panel, and hepatic function panel.

  • How do I measure my blood pressure and heart rate for the high blood pressure service?

You can use an at-home blood pressure monitor that has a cuff for the upper arm and a label on the box stating 'clinically validated'.

We recommend the Omron brand blood pressure arm cuffs, either series 3, 5, or 7. We don’t recommend using finger or wrist monitors, as they tend to be less accurate. Always read the instructions carefully.

Many pharmacies have a machine where you can accurately measure your blood pressure for free.

Here are two links to help you find your nearest  Higi machine and Pursuant Health kiosk. Both machines are FDA approved to check blood pressure accurately.

Rest for at least 5 minutes before taking your blood pressure and wait at least 30 minutes after smoking, eating, drinking caffeine, or exercising.

For at-home blood pressure monitors, make sure the cuff for the upper arm fits properly with just enough room to fit your fingertips between the cuff and your arm. A cuff that is the wrong size will give an inaccurate reading.

Make sure you put the cuff on the correct part of your arm. The lower edge of the cuff should be about an inch above your elbow. Rest your elbow on a table so that the cuff is at the same level as your heart.

Blood pressure machines typically provide both blood pressure and heart rate readings. Carefully record the results for your visit. Two blood pressure readings are needed for your first blood pressure visit with us. Take the readings at least one minute apart on both arms and give us the highest number you record.
