  • How can Lemonaid Health help if I am experiencing symptoms of a sinus infection?

Our sinus infection service provides you with a convenient and affordable way to manage your symptoms, and empowers you to do so appropriately and safely.

You can get the care and advice you need online without having to go to a traditional doctor’s office.

  • What should I know about a sinus infection and how can Lemonaid Health treat it?

A sinus infection is an inflammation of the sinus cavities (spaces or air pockets) of the face. These sinus cavities are typically filled with air, but when inflamed can fill with mucus and produce facial pain and pressure.

The symptoms of a sinus infection can be similar to symptoms caused by allergies, including runny nose, nasal or eye discharge, and itchy eyes or nose. In general, a sinus infection can cause fever, whereas allergies would not.

Sinus infections are usually caused by a virus, bacteria, or fungus. Most sinus infections are caused by viruses and will get better with time, without the need for antibiotic treatment. Our medical team can help determine if your sinus infection might be caused by a bacteria and if you could benefit from treatment with an antibiotic. Bacterial infections, left untreated, can spread to other parts of the head. Rare complications of bacterial sinus infection can include infection to the eye or brain, causing blindness, meningitis, and rarely death.

  • Can I use the Lemonaid Health sinus infection service?

You can use our service if you are between the ages of 18 and 74 years old with symptoms of a sinus infection. This service provides antibiotic treatment for patients who have an uncomplicated acute sinus infection from bacteria.

If you have mild symptoms for less than a week, it may be too early to tell the difference between a bacterial or viral cause. If symptoms worsen or don’t improve after a week, our providers can help you determine if treatment with an antibiotic is appropriate.

If you experience frequent sinus infections, we recommend that you see a healthcare provider in person instead of using our service.

  • Can Lemonaid Health treat a sinus infection remotely?

Our doctors and nurse practitioners can treat a sinus infection based on your history and symptoms and will ask you similar questions as an in-person provider. We help you understand the treatment options and answer any questions you may have.

Our medical team follows strict guidelines to make sure we only treat you when it's safe and appropriate to do so. It’s important that you answer our questions fully and truthfully, and read any information we provide.

If, for any reason, our doctor or nurse practitioner thinks it’s not safe to treat you, we’ll ask you to see a provider in person.

  • How do I complete a sinus infection visit?

    1. Create a Lemonaid Health Account.
    2. Complete our simple health questionnaire.
    3. Save your payment information - we won’t charge your card until after your consultation. Many HSA/FSA cards can be used at checkout.
    4. Complete a short consultation with a Lemonaid Health doctor or nurse practitioner. A phone call may be required depending on your state.

Our medical team will then determine if treatment with medication is safe and appropriate for you.

If we prescribe treatment, our medical team will send the prescription electronically to your local pharmacy.  The cost of the medication will depend on your pharmacy price and insurance coverage.

  • Are the sinus infection treatments provided by Lemonaid Health safe and effective?

There are risks and benefits to taking any medication. It’s important to answer our health questionnaire fully and truthfully so that our medical team can help you make an informed decision about whether the benefits of a medication outweigh the potential risks.

The medications we prescribe are effective when used correctly. Please read the information we provide in your treatment plan to learn more about the risks and benefits of treatment.

  • What can I do to help decrease the risk of spreading the infection to others or developing another sinus infection?

Cover your mouth or nose when coughing or sneezing. Stay home or wear a face mask when you are sick and must be around other people.  Quit smoking, if you smoke.  Wash your hands regularly with soap and water and keep your hands away from your eyes, nose, and mouth.
